Daniel Gildenlöw: singing “Pappa” on Saturday

In anticipation of Saturday’s live blog where we aim to give you a simultaneous English translation of what is said in Swedish at the first heat of Melodifestivalen, here’s our English translation of the Swedish lyrics of Daniel Gildenlöw’s song, “Pappa”. And as you’ll see, there won’t be a dry eye in the house.

There is one other song in Swedish this week: Behrang Miri feat. Victor Crone singing “Det rår vi inte för” (It’s not our fault), and we’ll post a translation of that song tomorrow.

In the meantime, here’s “Pappa”. Get the tissues ready:

I have so many questions
That burn inside me
If you could only answer
When I ring home to you

But you
You never have time
You promise that you will
One fi…ne day
You
Have your new life
And your new kids

Hi Dad
I miss you
Do you ever long to
come home to me
Dad, tell me,
What are you doing now?
Will you be coming home
When it’s Christmas time?
Dad, tell me…

You said it was for the best
It was best for the children
And that you would always be there

But you,
You are never here
When Mum drinks wine
And gives me a hard time
And when
she screams and swears
And cries all evening

Hi Dad
I miss you
Do you ever long to
come home to me
Dad tell me
What are you doing now?
Will you be coming home
When it’s Christmas time?
Dad, tell me,
Oho
But Dad,
We can take your car
And escape, you and me…

One fi…ne day
And we
Can be your new life
And I can be your new kid
One fi…ne day
And you can be
A new Dad
Who stays around
